The End of the Event Tech Era - DoubleDutch

I still remember my first DoubleDutch event. It was SugarCon 2012. The thing I remember the most was how engaging the app was, how it helped bring the SugarCon attendees together and how exhilarating gamification was. I didn’t end up on top of the leaderboard that year – Chris White totally dominated it – but I was hooked.

Fast forward to my next job. In early 2014, we were a couple months away from the Saba@Work conference and we needed a better way to engage our customers. Cindee Stott and I recommended DoubleDutch and it was the best decision we made. DoubleDutch took our user conference to a new level. And Emily He (my boss) gave me a clear directive: Get on top of the leaderboard, engage with our customers and partners and make it fun for everyone. I’m happySabaatworkSummit Instagram - DoubleDutch to report that I stayed on top of the leaderboard.

DoubleDutch proved such a success in electrifying the user conference that it was a foregone conclusion that we would build the 2015 edition of Saba@Work around DoubleDutch as well.

I have experienced first hand how DoubleDutch can be a game changer for events. How it changes the way attendees experience events. For me, DoubleDutch lit a fire under these events. DoubleDutch totally energized the whole event.

And 3 must have been a charm for me because several months later, I followed Emily to DoubleDutch.

But what I experienced is what most everybody experiences. The event was great. Full of energy. But for #eventprofs and marketers this is a double edged sword. Anecdotal evidence says the event was successful. But was it? Can you prove it? How do you measure success?
